LAuren MehlArt & Creativity have been a integral part of my life both professionally and personally. Growing up, I used art as a way to express myself both in school and as a form of personal reflection. Having moved nine times through my pre-teen and teenage years and getting to live everywhere from New York City to rural Virginia, cultural influences and travel play a large part in my work as an artist. As an educator, I strive to foster creativity and create an environment where students can explore and create freely while learning. I believe learning is most significant when students connect work to the world around them and connect personally and passionately to the content. Outside of the art world, I enjoy running my small business, playing with my dog Navi, baking/cooking, and going on road trips whenever possible!

I was born in raised in Fountain, CO, which is basically a suburb of Colorado Springs now. I spent my childhood playing sports, learning to play instruments, watching Star Wars (a lot) and making art. I was always looking forward to my art classes when I was in school and I always knew I had a connection to the arts. It has always been in my life even when I was pre-kindergarten age. I was really interested in painting in high school and in my junior year I had an English teacher who pushed me to my potential and helped me realize that I wanted to become a teacher. Once I got to college, I really enjoyed three-dimensional art; wood working, sculpture, and metalsmithing/jewelry making. I have never looked back and I absolutely love building things now. As a future educator, I want to facilitate a learning environment where students can find their self worth as well as develop a passion for art. Every student has their own strengths and the art classroom is one of the best places to develop skills and strengths to transfer into other areas of life. I have really enjoyed travelling and finding new places outside of Colorado. After my time at CSU, my dream is to go to California and live in Orange County; spending my years teaching art to high school students as well as surfing, living along the beach, and attending Angels baseball games.
